How I long for every devoted lover
وفّى العقيدة بالدم
Who fulfilled his creed with blood
شوقاه لنخلة ميثم
How I long for the palm tree of Maytham
شوقاه لصحب محرم
How I long for the companions of Muharram
لدمع محرم
For the tears of Muharram
وأقسم أني
And I swear that I
أسير محرم
Am a captive of Muharram
عمري أسير يوم كان به وحيد
My life is captive to the day he stood alone
قلبي أسير قلب الزهراء على الصعيد
My heart is captive to the heart of al-Zahra upon the plain
كفي أسيرة التي جروها بالحديد
My hand is captive to the one they dragged in iron
نحري أسير حد السيف مع الوريد
My throat is captive to the sword's edge, alongside the vein
إرث أجدادي
The inheritance of my ancestors
دين أولادي
The religion of my children
كربلا معنى بقائي واستشهادي
Karbala is the meaning of my survival and my martyrdom
ذكرها جمرة
Its memory is an ember
ألهبت ثورة
That ignited revolution
أبدية لأجل الدين والعترة
Eternal, for the sake of the religion and the Progeny
يا حسين مولاي
O Husayn, my master
إرث عليه تربيت
An inheritance upon which I was raised
أحيي عزا أهل البيت
I revive the mourning of Ahl al-Bayt
أنعى وأندب مولاي
I mourn and lament my master
كنت بكربلا يا ليت
If only I had been in Karbala
بنفسي لبيت
With my own soul, I would have answered
بأهلي لبيت
With my family, I would have answered
بولدي لبيت
With my children, I would have answered
أقسمت بفضائل قل هو الله أحد
I swore by the virtues of "Say: He is Allah, the One"
لبيك يا حسين بالأهل والولد
Labbayk, O Husayn, with my family and my children
مولاي ليته الشمر على صدري صعد
My master, if only Shimr had climbed upon my chest
ثم تراني أمي رأسا بلا جسد
And then my mother had seen me as a head without a body
عندنا الإرث
With us is the inheritance
شمر لو يجثو
Even if Shimr were to kneel
فوق صدري يبقى ذكري
Upon my chest, my remembrance would remain:
يا حسين مولاي
O Husayn, my master
عندنا العادة
With us, this is the custom
يعرف القادة
The leaders know us
بالثغور بالنحور
At the frontiers, with our throats
يا حسين مولاي

إرث لمقامك أسري
It is my inheritance to journey to your shrine
ليس مجرد قبر
It is not merely a grave
لو ما نطقت بسري
Even if I never uttered my secret
سأراك بحالي تدري
I would find that you already know my state
وتجبر كسري
You mend what is broken in me
وتقبل عذري
Accept my excuse
وتصلح أمري
And set my affairs right
إرثي من الحميري والخزاعي والكميت

O Master of Martyrdom, O source of life
كيف تكون ميتا والشهيد ليس ميت
How could you be dead, when the martyr is not dead?
