O Asma, do not blame me (for my weeping)
I saw a rib from among Fatima's ribs broken
(Asma said to Imam Ali:) "O You who advise us to be patient, you say that patience is beautiful"
He said to her, yes, but not over the loss of the mother of Husayn
How can I be patient when I saw her ribs broken?
And with my own eyes, O Asma, I saw the redness of her eye
She hides beneath her hijab, the traces of the slap upon her cheek
However much she hides the injury, it appears upon her blackened back
How could this have happened, behind the door? And how many hands were stretched against her?
On the Day of the House, how did this take place?
And why, whenever I look at her, does she turn her gaze away?
O Asma, do not blame me (for my weeping)
I saw a rib from among Fatima's ribs broken
Asma, let me pour out from my chest these pains
The breaking of hearts is no less than the breaking of ribs
After her, I live the life of a living body trapped in the endless agony of death
Khaybar upon my back is lighter than the weight of the farewell
I have no back left to help me carry al-Zahra
Nor do I have eyes that can aid me in the flowing of tears
O Asma, how can the one who buries his whole life continue to live?
No, by Allah, I will never stop thinking about her
I bury her, while her grave is dug within my very soul
O Asma, do not blame me (for my weeping)
I saw a rib from among Fatima's ribs broken
She would put on strength against sorrow, and when she wept, she wept silently
I would ask her, "What is hurting you?" and she would tell me, "Seeing your agony"
She hid her injury from me, but I saw what had been hidden
At the burial, with my right hand I felt the crushing of her chest
It is my right, O Asma, even if it melts the skin of my eye...
To cry out, "O Zahra, you left so quickly and left me behind"
The decree of fate willed that my years should end in sorrow
I weep for her, while she makes me weep
She departed with the long length of her sorrow, though her lifetime was short
O Asma, do not blame me (for my weeping)
I saw a rib from among Fatima's ribs broken
You are the treasury of secrets, yet you conceal secrets from me?
While I know what happened, and I lower my gaze from what happened
The chest where Hasan would sleep, has been pierced with a nail
And the hand that rocked Husayn's cradle, has been set on fire
O Asma, how can it be that all of this happened to her?
And she would never say how many whips were hit across her
Let my heartbreak last until death, I will never recover from it
The sadness and the grave, could not conceal her pain
And her oppression began with the breaking of the pledge of Ghadir
O Asma, do not blame me (for my weeping)
I saw a rib from among Fatima's ribs broken
